About Me
I’m originally from Alaska, USA, where I attended the University of Alaska Anchorage, or UAA, as it is more commonly known. I now live in Asahikawa, Japan, with my wife, Mutsumi, who was born and raised here. We have two daughters and two grandchildren.
I’m also a military veteran, having served in the United States Army as an infantry soldier for many years. Most of my service was in Alaska at Fort Richardson and Fort Wainwright, but I was also stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri; Fort Lee, Virginia; Fort Knox, Kentucky; and Fort Bragg, North Carolina. I come from a military family—nearly everyone has served, including both my mother and father. In fact, we can trace our family’s military service back hundreds of years.
Outside the classroom, I’m an avid outdoorsman. You’ll often find me riding my fat tire bike, hiking mountain trails, or enjoying peaceful beach walks in Rumoi, my favorite small coastal town in Hokkaido. I love sharing stories about Alaska and weaving my adventures into our conversations, so there’s always something interesting to talk about!
Here’s a fun fact about me: I’ve driven from Alaska, through Canada, and all the way to Virginia Beach, Virginia, on the east coast of the United States—18 times! The road that connects Alaska to the rest of the U.S. is called the Alaska Highway, or simply the Alcan. It’s a 1,300–1,570-mile (2,100–2,500 km) route that runs from Dawson Creek, British Columbia, through the Yukon Territory, to Delta Junction, Alaska. Built in 1942 as a military supply route, it’s still the only land route connecting Alaska to the lower 48 states. Today, the Alaska Highway is famous for its rugged beauty, wildlife, and as one of the ultimate road trip adventures.
Other hobbies of mine include antiquing (I love history), cooking, and just spending time out in nature.

私はアラスカ州アメリカ出身で、アラスカ大学アンカレッジ校（UAA）に通っていました。現在は旭川に住んでおり、妻の睦美と二人の娘、そして二人の孫と一緒に暮らしています。
また、私はアメリカ陸軍の歩兵兵士として長年勤務した退役軍人でもあります。大部分の勤務はアラスカ州のフォート・リチャードソンとフォート・ウェインライトで行いましたが、ミズーリ州のフォート・レナード・ウッド、バージニア州のフォート・リー、ケンタッキー州のフォート・ノックス、ノースカロライナ州のフォート・ブラッグにも配属されました。私の家族は軍人が多く、両親も含め、何百年にもわたって家族の軍歴を遡ることができます。
教室外では、アウトドア活動が大好きです。よくファットバイクに乗ったり、山道をハイキングしたり、北海道の小さな海辺の町・留萌で静かなビーチウォークを楽しんだりしています。アラスカの話を共有したり、冒険のエピソードを会話に織り交ぜたりするのが好きなので、レッスン中はいつも面白い話題があります！
面白い事実として、アラスカからカナダを経由してバージニア州のバージニアビーチまで、アメリカ東海岸を18回も車で走破したことがあります！アラスカとアメリカ本土を結ぶ道はアラスカ・ハイウェイ（通称アルキャン）と呼ばれ、ダウソン・クリーク（ブリティッシュ・コロンビア州）からユーコン準州を経て、アラスカ州デルタ・ジャンクションまで続く1,300～1,570マイル（2,100～2,500km）のルートです。1942年に軍事補給路として建設され、現在でもアラスカと本土を結ぶ唯一の陸路です。今日では、その険しい美しさや野生動物、究極のロードトリップとして有名です。
その他の趣味としては、アンティーク収集（歴史が好き）、料理、そして自然の中で過ごす時間を楽しんでいます。
