👋 About Me
Hi, I’m John — your friendly American English teacher! Originally from Alaska, USA, I now call Asahikawa, Hokkaido, Japan home. My wife is Japanese and was born right here in Asahikawa. We have two daughters and two grandchildren. I am immensely proud to be part of this wonderful community.
🏔️ Life in Alaska
Before moving to Japan, I lived for many years in Alaska, where I enjoyed hiking, fishing, and exploring its wilderness. I often share stories from those adventures in class — they make great conversation topics.
🎓 Education
While living in Alaska, I attended the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA), where I pursued a Bachelor of Arts in Languages, specializing in Japanese.
🏕️ Hobbies
Outside the classroom, I’m an avid outdoorsman who enjoys spending time in nature. You’ll often find me riding my fat tire bike around Asahikawa — if you see me, please say hello! I love hiking mountain trails, fishing, and taking peaceful walks along the beach in Rumoi. I also enjoy nature photography.
Another hobby of mine is antiquing — the pastime of searching for and shopping for antiques.
